London 2012: English Breakfast and more... (Florian, Germany)
When we
stayed in London, I realized that breakfast in England isn’t much the same like
in Germany, but it tastes very good.
After setting off on that morning, we visited the famous Camden Town Market in London.
Breakfast
at the hotel was prepared by the nice staff. Especially the serving lady was very
pleasant, because she greeted everyone and spoke in a very mannerly and
friendly way that I have not often experienced before.
In accordance to this we
modelled our behaviour on hers and took breakfast like real gentlewomen and
gentlemen. After setting off on that morning, we visited the famous Camden Town Market in London.
At
this big market “being polite” is not so common because many customers hassled
me, so I didn’t like the market.
For
a nice close of the day, we had dinner at an Italian restaurant in Leicester
Square.
The
waiter was very friendly to us, so our group behaved well and was very polite
too,
using the cutlery and eating
without sounds. Also, we kept our voices down, because we weren't the only customers at the
restaurant.Sunday, 26 August 2012
London 2012: Exploring London (Lisa, Germany)
I am going to tell you something about my day!
London is great! On this day, 14th June 2012, we went to explore some
parts of it. Here you can see our German group at Piccadilly Circus:
Everything is so big!
One time we saw a very funny thing: “Borrow a bike”
There, you actually get the chance to do your exploring on two wheels!
Here you can see my
favourite bridge: The Millennium Bridge!
We also went to...
... the London Eye...
...and...

London 2012: Our day off (Schems, Germany)
We were all excited about
this day, Friday 15th June;
because it was the day we pupils were allowed to
follow our own interests in groups of a minimum of three. Helen, Daria, Lisa and I decided
to first go to Regent’s Street.
To get there we had to take
the underground.
When we saw the station, we had to rush by crowds of people, who were
blocking all the ways. All of us were in a hurry, because we wanted to get on
this train so we wouldn’t have to wait some minutes for the next one. We rushed
down the escalator without pushing or punching any people. When we finally
reached the platform I jumped in before the doors closed, thinking the other
girls were with me. Suddenly the doors shut and I saw them still standing on
the platform.
As if we weren’t frustrated enough, a man behind Daria, Helen and Lisa
clapped his hands and waved, saying: “Great! Bye bye!” We thought it was very
rude of him and not nice at all. He certainly wasn’t showing manners.
Furthermore, when I rode along on the tube by myself, some people
wouldn’t stop laughing at the situation. It was really embarrassing!
But thankfully I knew which stop I had to get off so I did just that and
waited.
Some minutes later I saw my friends getting off the next train and then
we were all reunited.
In the end we couldn’t stop laughing about it either, because we hadn’t
expected anything like this to happen at the very beginning of our “day off”.
We were glad when we arrived at Regent’s Street.
It’s great! There are so many shops!!
This day was really fun and
we saw many memorable things - including a person from the royal family when
Camilla Parker-Bowles was driving past us in front of Buckingham Palace and
waving at us...
London 2012: Traffic and London Landmarks (Ioana, Germany)
On the third day the
German delegation explored the roads and sights of London in the morning.
The best idea the English ever had, was to
introduce the zebra crossings. We all knew that the traffic was organized differently
in Britain, with people driving on the left. But still, we wouldn’t have been
able to cross the road safely without this support or the written reminders
next to the curb stone.Picadilly Circus was the first famous landmark we saw.
After that we we were very impressed by Trafalgar Square with Nelson’s Column. Also, our delegation had a lot of fun taking pictures on the lions in front of it. As you can see, it was very tricky to climb on the big and smooth animals.
At noon, we met the other delegations and had a picnic in the park by the River Thames in front of the Tate Gallery.
A cultural highlight we very much enjoyed was the musical “Blood Brothers” by Willy Russell, which we all saw in the afternoon.
We finished our day in London’s Chinatown in Soho where we had dinner together in a Chinese restaurant. There, we learned again something new, namely the difference between soft and crispy noodles. The crispy variation is a little bit undone. And this is not necessarily to everybody’s taste, which we found out on this occasion.
