Patron Day in  a high school  named Bolesław Chrobry in Kłodzko

This day is a part of our school tradition , which is celebrated every year on the last day of April.

That is the monument of Chrobry in Wrocław

What is more, this is also the farewell day of the 3^rd Form students. From that day on, it is only the leaving schools exams they should be concentrated on………….

But, let’s go back to Patron Day,  and mainly to Bolesław Chrobry. You know , it was our great Polish King from  the Middle Ages. An outstanding politician with quite a prophet- like  vision of the future  for Poland; the country not that important when he came to power, but  independent and strong when he died. Now, how is that day cherished in our school?

The most often a kind of ceremony is held for all the students in the patio of our  school. What does it look like ? You can see in the

photo.

As I said the students, supposed to wear students uniforms, gather as the audience in the patio with teachers. In fact, the perfect image of the students in our school is presented by the students showing the big inscription - in Polish - Dzień Patrona, in English- Patron day.You can see here clearly their outfit- navy-blue uniforms with silver badges presenting the image of our school Patron- Bolesław Chrobry.

                                                                 

All the ceremony is run by President of School Council.

The first very formal partof the ceremony  is inaugurated by the entrance of  our School Flag fellowship

 ( looking quite seductive, especiallg girls, don’t they?)

 followed by Polish National Anthem  sung by all the audience and , finally we are entertained by  the  speech of Our School Head giving some details on the remarkable character of  Bolesław Chrobry.
 By the way, the nickname Chrobry meant in Old POLISH – STRONG.

Then usually starts so called the artistic part of the ceremony. As it is less formal the Flag fellowship are supposed to leave the patio while the audience are standing  on the attention ( in other words “not moving”).

Now the performance starts. It is made by students from class 1F. You can imagine the overwhelming music sung by one of our bards of Polish music,reminding us (click -h)

of the distant times and there enter the boys and one red-haired  girl in some costumes of Polish medieval knights. If not  the costumes are  truly  historical , at least the shields patterns are.

They are reciting the poem on Chrobry written in the 19the century, so quite a long time ago. Sounds boring? To make it more appealing we divided the poem into three parts. The first one –“ the past “I told you about. Then goes “ present “ and here, first a teacher and then a student are presenting the verses of the poem...

Still boring, but then come the boys rapping the next verses of the ancient poem. 

 An then comes the future, where the final verses of the poem are recited by knights, a teacher, students and rappers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quite a mess?

 No, the answer to all the turmoil of the present is tradition. How about now listening to the fragment of the song from The fiddler on the roof musical with the storming word shouted “ tradition”?

In the final comment to our performance we stressed the importance of tradition because of its focus on continuity, which gives to our fragile life, here on the globe some context , sense and  memories to refer to. 

This means we are not separate units  but the indispensable parts of that  phenomenon of  continuity of life, which gives meaning to the existence of each community, also our school one.

And here we are so close to our “Comenius Project “ problem. Yes, this year our short spectacle is the answer to the question of the project :

“ Manners and mores –do they still matter?”

Yes, because they build tradition which , in fact keeping us down to earth, lets us live not losing our senses . HOW? W e have always someone  to talk to , no matter if  they are young or old. And this happens by means of a  “ common language of tradition” recognized by all generations. Yes,   we can  communicate between  generations!  The only thing you have to do is let your mind open to the past, present and future!

I have almost forgotten. All the spectacle, the audience were entertained with music produced by two girls, the violinist and  the cellist, awesome? Right.
