Wednesday 13th June was one of the most interesting days in London: We learned a lot about manners and mores of other countries.
The day started with a meeting of English, Polish, Spanish and us German students at the Business Academy Bexley in Erith / Kent, “one of the best 100 schools in England” and our project partner.
On arriving at the Academy the head teacher Guy Nichols received all the students of the four different countries in a friendly way and told them some important things about the school, then had to take his leave and so Assistant head teacher Annabel Bates took over.
After the salutation every group of delegates presented their little contributions, a song or quiz about manners or information about their own country.

In addition, some younger students of the Academy presented little texts about their thoughts on manners that they had written in class.
Listening to the presentations was really interesting because there were some rules in other countries that were completely new to us. Afterwards, we had the chance to pursue sport activities like basketball, table tennis and football, where we made the acquaintance of the other students from Spain, Poland and England. We all played together in the schoolyard and had a lot of fun.
Subsequently, we went to an Art activity in one of the modern classrooms of the Academy. We had the task to write down some adages in our own language – the message was supposed to be that time is running. We had to draw a picture relating to one of the adages on a big white sheet of paper and this was a chance to show our artistic talent.
After we had finished drawing, we were treated by our hosts to “afternoon tea” - a wonderful buffet, which was spread in the room we before had heard the presentations in. The tasty food included sandwiches, strawberries, pies, and Coronation Chicken, which was a dish prepared for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 and has been popular ever since.
At the end of the
meeting, some teachers took us on a tour around the Academy and showed us all
the various facilities like the library, the gym, the theatre, the computer
labs, and so on.
In the late afternoon, we took our leave from the
Business Academy Bexley and set off to the tube to return to our hotel near
Marble Arch.
