Arrival at Santander
When our plane was approaching Santander Airport I was
fascinated by the great weather there. No clouds, just blue sky and a sun
shining like in German summer but it was not too hot. I was also impressed by
the bright blue of the water and of the sky. What a huge difference between
Germany and Spain!
So, all in all I thought it was fantastic and a
question came to my mind: "Why and where should Spanish people go on
vacation?"
The plain was rolling over the airstrip, stopped and
we disembarked. Everything was different: the exotic plants, the affectionate
people, and the buildings. I was surprised that it just took about five minutes
until everybody got his suitcase. We went to the bus station where two Spanish
teachers, Ms. Mayordomo and Mr. Santos, were already waiting for us. We went to
the central train station of Santander by bus an then we took a train to our
hotel at Santa Cruz de Bezana. The host families for our four youngest students
were already waiting there. Thus, our four eighth graders were able to get
acquainted with their families directly. After they had left, we unpacked our
suitcases and explored our rooms. Apart from one thing everything was perfect.
There was only cold water in the shower. But this problem was solved just a few
hours after we had informed the reception.
So the start of our visit was great and without
problems.
