Sports and Manners in Santander: Lukas (Germany)

Sports and manners
Sports and manners, have you ever seen this combination before? Most people would say no. That’s my reason for picking this topic.
A lot of people don’t know what to associate with sports and manners but it’s very obvious. During our project stay at Santander we played football with the Spanish students. For playing football you have to work in a team and talk with others in order to be successful.
Talking with your teammates, knowing the basic manners is very important to be polite to them. Also, managing good behavior is important in a lot of other situations while doing sports. One example can be found easily in the case of football.

If your teammate does a bad pass you shouldn´t tell him: “You are a dope, you little troll I hate noobs, go for playing mau-mau, for goodness sake.”   That´s the way it definitely shouldn’t be. A very good reaction could be: “No problem I did hundreds of bad passes this game, this happens to everyone, next time it will be better”. In this example you protect the dignity of the other player, don’t blame him for his little mistake and encourage him. That´s always better than screaming at someone.

Another variety of manners is fairness. Respecting the rules makes it possible to have fun, prevents arguments about the violation of rules and minimizes the danger of injuries because of unfair prcatices. Fair play is important for showing good behavior.

Nobody likes to play if everyone disregards the rules. Breaking the rules destroys the game and that’s disrespectful to the people who want to have a fair game and fun. As mentioned above, an unfair game is nofun. As you can see, there are lots of relationships between sports and manners and thus I would like to appeal to every reader:
Always play fair. !
